Where to Get Married Wednesdays: Winter Wedding at Sweden’s Ice Hotel

Dec 4, 2013 by

If you find yourself trying to figure out how to incorporate the season into your winter wedding motif, you first must answer one important question… Do you find icicles to be nature’s Swarovski crystals? If your answer is a resounding “Yes!”, then you will find no better winter wedding venue for you and your handsome groom than Sweden’s Ice Hotel!

The Ice Hotel is exactly what it sounds like, bride-to-be: a hotel built of ice and snow each winter in the heart of Sweden’s Laplands! Located in Jukkasjärvi (pronounced: you-kas-yayr-vi), the hotel’s website proclaims that the inn is not only a seasonally built hotel – winter only, of course – but it is also an ephemeral art project. Take your wedding destination guests on guided Northern Lights tours, or go out on an Arctic adventure and try ice sculpting, ice fishing, husky sleighing, moose watching, or a snowmobile safari!

Just remember, soon-to-be Mrs., that the Ice Hotel isn’t a place to turn up outside the door looking for a room, so be sure to book your stay at least a year in advance! Choose from rooms like the ‘basic’ Deluxe Suite furnished with a large bed and seating area made of ice and snow, or the Northern Lights Suite that boasts an artistic celebration of the Aurora Borealis. Is the Arctic Circle not your first choice for a destination wedding? Canada has its very own Hotel de Glace!
